The first page of your site, {home page, the page your URL goes to}, should be the "index.html" page. This page would be where you would have the picture with link. You can also embed a "redirect" code that, after a set period of time, the page will auto-redirect to the page you wish your visitor to go to.
When someone types in just your URL, the computer will always look to your index page. If there is no index page the visitor will get "site not found". You MUST have an index page if you just want to use your URL.
