Enjoy davis california

Davis California - The state of California is no place to be bored and there are lots of towns with a thriving, cultural life. One such place is Davis California, with a city population of over 64,000 and located in the Sacramento Valley in Yolo County. The city has a reputation for being environmentally aware and it’s generally considered to be a great place to live. Its reputation is further enhanced by the University of California, Davis, which is greatly respected.

The town developed as a railroad town in the 1870s and as an agricultural community. Summers are hot and dry and winters are wet, but temperate. During the late 1960s, Davis California constructed lots of bike lanes and paths for cyclists and the cycling population is above average as a result. Another reason for the presence of so many bicycles is the absence of hills in the area.

The residents here like wholesome food and farmers markets are well supported. Local produce is sold, much of it organic, and includes dairy products, baked goods, restaurant food, meat, vegetables and citrus fruits. It’s an opportunity for independent farmers and non-profit enterprises to sell their wares. Locally sourced olive oil is sold too and arts and crafts, plants and flowers. Some market days have events and music on occasion.

The Davis Toad Tunnel is an unusual landmark and shows the caring nature of the citizens of Davis California. It is a wildlife crossing, constructed to save toads from being hit by cars in 1995 when the overpass was built. The act of mercy cost $14,000.

Nature is further celebrated at the University of California, Davis Arboretum. This botanical garden contains plant species from all over the world and trees include the oak and the redwood. There is a waterway on the sight, which attracts cormorants, kingfishers and herons. It’s also a place where the people from Davis California can feed the ducks.

The University plays host at the annual Picnic Day. Organized by students, it’s the biggest student led event in the country. There are a variety of activities, including a parade with a marching band, sheepdog trials, dog race, chemistry show and a Battle of the Bands. The Whole Earth Festival is a three-day event that brings thousands of visitors each year to Davis California. It’s normally held during Mothers Day weekend and involves music, food and crafts. There are also displays, workshops and talks on subjects such as alternative energy sources.
