Campaign Ideas - It’s that time of the year again. The time of year when every organization under the sun is asking for money since the holidays are almost upon us. The time of year when elections seem to be the focus of the political minded in the communities. There’s nothing I love more than watching the candidates bash each other in public in order to help themselves win.
The campaign ideas of many organizations amazes me sometimes. It seems like every organization that mails me a letter asking for money seems to enclose free cards or address stickers. By receiving them and ultimately using them, the organizations are hoping that the recipients feel obligated to send a donation. I have to admit, that is one of the better campaign ideas that I’ve heard of. In fact, it works for me. I do only choose the organizations that get to my house first, I don’t give money to everyone. If they all had the same campaign ideas, I wouldn’t have any money left for my own needs. I do use the cards and stickers though, so I like to donate something in return.
The campaign ideas that don’t work on me and offend some people, are those that show horrible photos of starving or needy children. I know that there are children all over the world who need help. But, you know what There are tons of children in our own country that need help as well. Showing me a photo doesn’t do anything to make me feel obligated. Get some new campaign ideas that don’t make people look away. There are the campaign ideas, such as the United Way, that try to entice people to donate by offering giveaways. If you donate a certain amount, you’re eligible to win a car. That does lure some people in. However, most people donate out of their own generosity, not to try to win a vehicle.
Candidates who are vying for government office positions come up with some really unique and desperate campaign ideas. Seeing the commercials where the candidates are bashing each other doesn’t tell me anything about their own ideas and plans. I want to know what they are all about, not about the opponent’s faults. I wish that some campaign ideas would involve honesty and integrity for once. I’d love, for once, to see an election where no one is criticizing the opponents. I’d vote for them then, for being nice and having respect for their colleagues. But, their campaign ideas involve sticking signs in yards, passing out flyers and bumper stickers, making automated phone calls to homes, and handing out buttons to wear. You name it, someone has used it as a campaign idea.
Here’s a hint - make honesty one of your campaign ideas. Tell me what you can do for me. Tell me what to expect from you. Don’t expect me to learn about you from some bumper sticker. That’s insulting.
